Last night I had to keep on telling myself, “This is Happening!”The “Sounds of Silver” filled the majestic Fillmore Auditorium for one night creating an all out dance party that started with local Boyhollow behind the turntables getting the stage ready for UK’s Hot Chip. Hot Chip’s steel drum functioned as their foundation for their hip swaying set that started a bit early. The entire night started at 7. I arrived at 8:15 and the line wrapped around the venue and down the block. The congestion caused for me to miss half of their set, but upon entering, Hot Chip’s beats had already taken over and the massive dance frenzy was set. Their magnetic energy was unlike anything like I’ve ever witnessed. There was no room to spare on the giant stage and it seemed to be occupied by ever member from the group, or a keyboard. Their set wrapped up with “Ready for the Floor”, which appropriately set up the floor for LCD Soundsystem. The only person missing from LCD Soundsystem’s stage was the Juan Maclean. It seemed like every member from the DFA roster was present. From Gavin Russom to Nancy Whang. Their set got it started early with an extended version of “Get Innocuous”. The already amp’d crowd was taken to the next level when they played “All of my Friends” into the stellar track off of “This Is Happening”, “You Wanted a Hit”. All minds were blown, all bets were off, and more dancing ensued. The evening ended with “Someone Great” (my favorite LCD track) and “Losing My Edge”. For one night, LCD Soundsystem played in my house! James Murphy has hinted that their last release maybe the last one we’ll ever listen to, ever. Here’s to hoping they have one more in them.
