The “Plastic Beach” came to Denver’s Wells Fargo Theatre and C=T sent contributor Nate Iverson to cover the show.

The Gorillaz took over the Wells Fargo Theatre on Sunday and a full on
dance part ensued. Led by Damon Albarn jumping from speaker to
speaker, the young crowd went wild. Restricted by the seats at the
theatre, the audience shuffled and grooved out into the aisles of the
theatre so that they could dance easier.

The set started with a nice and unique cartoon intro, illustrated by
the other half of the band artist Jamie Hewlett, while the band
assembled on stage. Albarn was accompanied on stage by a full band
and Mick Jones and Paul Simonon (of the Clash) throughout the set.
Bobby Womack joined the rest of the Gorillaz on stage for they’re
latest single off “Plastic Beach”, “Stylo”.

While the set was mainly dominated by songs off “Plastic Beach”,
Albarn knew how to keep the dance party going by throwing in a couple
of songs off “Demon Days” and their self-titled “Gorillaz” albums.
The young kids ate up the performance, draped in captain’s hats and
other Gorillaz’s related attire. Overall, the Gorillaz put on one
hell of a show!

Side note: N.E.R.D opened the show for the Gorillaz to a half full
theatre. Unphased by the turn out Pharrell Williams led his band
through a powerful, but short set. By the end of their set, the theatre
was almost full and grooving along to the tunes of Williams and
company.
