Last night validated a longing suspicion that I’ve had since the release of Caribou‘s “Swim”. The album has resonated with me long since the release and watching the transformation of recorded material, which was already brilliant in it’s own right, to the next level has only made me appreciate the album and act that much more to the point where it COULD be my favorite of 2010. A casual listen to Caribou’s music would lead one to believe that when performed live, you would find a stage full of labtops. Not the case at all. The percussion heavy set had Dan Snaith doing his best as maestro as he wove Caribou’s calculated beats (Snaith has a Ph.D. in Advanced Mathematics, would you expect anything less) to a mass dance floor before the Fox Theatre stage. Emeralds opened with a 45 minute jam that had the trio delving into their proper full length, “Does It Look Like I’m Here?”. I can still hear the hiss from the ambient drone type set that Emerald played last night. Last time I checked, the sequel to” 2010″ has consulted with Emeralds for soundtracking purposes.
