We over here at C=T had a contest a couple of weeks ago to send a lucky reader to catch the VERY SOLD OUT Black Keys show last night. In the spirit of scratching each other’s back, our winner , Kathleen Tarrant, wrote a show review of last night’s smashing performance. You can read more of Kathleen’s musings over at her blog, My Best Friend’s Arm.

The Black Keys have never been shy about completely melting your face off on a record. Good thing that translates live. At the sold out show at the Fillmore, the crowd was packed from ten feet away from Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney’s colorful and stadium lit stage to the merchandise table at the back of the large ballroom. The whole sweaty mob didn’t stop dancing and shaking for the entire show, with very little banter from the stage and a whole lot of the fiery, dirty guitar licks and brash drumming that the duo enthusiastically deliver. With a good mix of their old favorites like “Strange Times” and “Till I Get My Way” and their new Brothers tunes, it was a great balance. I was pleased that the two decided to bring along a bassist and keyboard player to help round out their more full sound that they developed on Brothers. I can’t say I was totally ready for the show to end when it did. It was such an energetic show that it felt breathlessly exciting from the very first to the very last moment. The Black Keys have showmanship down to an art form, and I hope that when Auerbach bade the room farewell with, “see you soon” he was being serious.
