I am eternally grateful for “Let Go”. I probably spun the hell out of that album a thousand times and it got me through some rough spots. “Blonde on Blonde” made me a “Happy Kid”. I regret not going to see them in 2003 in support of “Let Go”. It was a blizzard outside and the venue was literally 8 blocks down the street from my house. Lame. I know. Nobody had heard from Nada Surf since their commercial bomb, “Proximity Effect”, had been tabled by Elektra. “Let Go” marked the band’s comeback from the MTV hit “Popular” and proved to everybody that they weren’t a one hit wonder. I love Matt’s unmistakable vocals and look forward to the covers, especially the Kate Bush and Depeche Mode tracks. Nada Surf had a little help from their friends in recording the album: Martin Wenk (Calexico), Phil Peterson (Kay Kay and the Weathered Underground), Joe McGinty (Losers Lounge, Psychedelic Furs) and Holly Miranda. The covers album, “if i had a hi-fi ” is scheduled for release on CD/LP and digitally June 8th via the bands own label, Mardev Records, with distribution through ADA.
