Deadmau5 & Burns ::: Ogden Theatre ::: 11.04.09
Last week, we sent C=T beat junkie, Renzo “El Von” Sandoval, to get caught up with his dance fix.
Deadmau5, the Canadian whose real name is Joel Thomas Zimmerman is definitely the man of the moment on the dance scene. On Wednesday night, clubbers, ravers, and fans were filling up the Odgen Theatre, many of them wearing mouse ears, or giant Mickey-style heads.
The crowd started to get impatient while Burns played an explosive set of deep house, definitely something different from what was coming.
Around midnight, Deadmau5 appeared onstage in his infamous mouse mask. The crowd was amped, and everyone was dancing throughout the set. People were treated to a unique style of progressive house and electronica, while most watched in amazement the visual stimulation created by the phenomenal light show.
He played a two hour electro filled set, dropping several crowd favorites including remixes of “Not Exactly”, “Sometimes Things Get Complicated”, and a remix version of “Harder Better Faster Stronger”, proving why he is now a mainstream favorite on the dance scene.
Let’s hope he stays unique and doesnt get lost in the mainstream world.
