The kids up at CU have much to be happy with these days. Their football team has rid themselves of the dwarfed midget aka as CoHawk in favor of the more talented and less vertically challenged, Tyler Hansen. Maybe the Buffs can get a win for their Homecoming concert being played by Tapes ‘N Tapes and the Knew.

Having sold out the Fox Theatre their last time through, Tapes ‘N Tapes are making their way back through Colorado for a free show on the CU Boulder campus. An export of the twin cities, the quirky indie band plays the kind of music that’s impossible to sit still for. The quartet layers catchy guitar riffs with keyboard accents and a superb rhythm section, all topped off with intelligent, playful lyrics. Fans of Wolf Parade, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and The Walkmen will rejoice at the band’s lively brand of toe-tapping, head-bopping indie-pop. Tapes ‘N Tapes has appeared at a variety of festivals, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Pitchfork Music Festival. Their newest album, Walk It Off, sees them creating a tighter, more dynamic sound than their previous releases. An aggressive, heavier undertaking, it sets them up for a charming, energetic live performance that will have the audience on their feet, singing and dancing along.
Denver band The Knew, are bringing back straight-up rock and roll with a vengeance. Ranked as the #5 best band in Denver, they’ve received favorable reviews by local blogs, radio stations, and newspapers, and are fast becoming a favorite in the mile-high city. The Knew have released various EPs, including Holladay (2007) and Boom Bust (2008), and have spent the last couple months recording their first full-length, which should be released later this year. The band has had an excellent year so far, with spots playing at Monolith, Denver Post Underground Music Showcase, Westword Music Showcase, and most recently CMJ in New York City. Don’t miss their set opening for Tapes ‘N Tapes; because when it comes to hard rocking, The Knew shows no mercy.
