Quick Hits ::: C=T Interviews Sally Shapiro

Photobucket

I had a chance to catch up with the very talented Sally Shapiro. She’s currently promoting her newest album, My Guilty Pleasure, and I’ve had the following song on repeat for two months.

Sally Shapiro-Dying in Africa [mp3]

C=T – Who’s the hottest producer out right now?

SS – Johan Agebjörn.

C=T – What’s the best Swedish export?

SS – Astrid Lindgren’s books.

C=T Dying in Africa is my favorite track on your latest album, My Guilty Pleasure. Have you ever been to Africa and what  metaphor does the song stand for?

SS – No I haven’t. The metaphor is about how you can subjectively feel that your own love problems are worse than the global problems of famine and pollution, even though you know objectively that it isn’t that way. At least that’s how we interpret the line “I can’t get over you, even though they’re dying in Africa” – but it’s a cover version of a track by Nicolas Makelberge so we can’t be sure 🙂

C=T – What kind of progression did you make from your first album to your second?

SS – We think the production is more varied on the My Guilty Pleasure. There are influences from more styles of music, and it didn’t feel as important to recreate the italo disco sound of the 80s in an authentic way, like we did on the majority of the tracks on Disco Romance.

C=T – What kind of remixes should we expect from the new album?

SS – We’re having some remixes being made at the moment, but no idea what they will sound like.
