The Monolith lineup, albeit a a bit on the unconventional side, is an exciting way to release acts . I compare it to the 12 days of Christmas.
Follow them to get updates via their Facebook Group Page and following them on Twitter. First act announced is Starfucker.
MONOLITH FESTIVAL PRESENTED BY ESURANCE
SEPTEMBER 12 AND 13 AT COLORADO’S RED ROCKS AMPHITHEATRE
I don’t think even a prayer will get me Nuggets playoff tickets this evening. I’m pretty pissed because I tasted the sweet nectar of victory; only to have it taken away by the wretched hands of Ticketmaster and their stupid computer glitches. Alas, I have one more chance to score tickets before the price gets inflated by ticket brokers (one of which is owned by Ticketmaster (double dippers)). With that in mind, the weekend is upon us, and what would the weekend be without some dance tracks.

Today is full of fantastic news of forthcoming albums. Here’s some new Mew news:
On August 25th Columbia Records will release Mew’s third studio album titled:
No more stories
Are told today
I’m sorry
They washed away
No more stories
The world is grey
I’m tired
Let’s wash away
The post-rock trio will play a handful of international dates opening for Nine Inch Nails this summer. The band was personally chosen by Trent Reznor for their multi-instrumental, visually captivating live performances that have garnered a worldwide following and critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Spin (http://www.spin.com/articles/exclusive-album-preview-mew), Pitchfork (http://pitchfork.com/news/35346-new-mew-album-details-extremely-long-title-crazy-tracklist/), Entertainment Weekly, NME and more. Mew will bring that performance stateside in July to play the Pitchfork Festival on July 19th in Chicago, IL.
No more stories… was recorded during the summer of 2008 in Brooklyn, NY with renowned producer Rich Costey (Muse, Glasvegas, NIN). The band spent the last year between Brooklyn and Copenhagen perfecting the albums new up-beat and lighter aura, as well as, creating animation for their upcoming live performances. Most of this was documented along the way by the band and can be seen and heard in short diary entries on the bands MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/mew
The timeline leading up to the August release will include an EP, No More Stories, due out on June 30th that will include 2 new tracks from the upcoming album along with 3 b-sides and will be available on the band’s tour dates, at indie retail and on all DSPs (with a complete my album option starting August 25th on iTunes). The band is also filming a cinematic series of 3 videos with award winning director, Martin de Thurah, who is known for his work with Fever Ray, Glasvegas, and Royskopp. Thurah also directed Mew’s “Special” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krduw4Uzs9g
Mew’s 2003 European release of Frengers, also produced by Costey, caught the ears of profound music lovers and indie tastemakers. Leading up to their sophomore release of, And the Glass Handed Kites, in 2006 in which international demand for the band increased and eventually garnered the release of both albums in the US. To date the band has been praised by the press. Hailed by Spin Magazine as, “experimental enough to woo fans of Radiohead, and straight forward enough to lap up lovers of Coldplay.” Pitchfork called the band’s sound, “cutting-edge elegant,” and Filter Magazine called Mew, “the best Scandinavian export since IKEA.”

Kevin talks about a new album from Broken Social Scene and a few more items in a post that he has written over here. The news of the group recording a new album has me pretty giddy.
The team of Lucia and Jonas took in this show the other night. In what seemed to be a night for couples, the evening manifested itself into an evening of great music. (Photos by Lucia De Giovanni/ Word by Jonas DiCaprio (no relation))
If you created a pie chart to represent the crowd at the Keane show last night by far the largest piece of that pie would be couples on the first, or maybe second date. The first opening band The Helio Sequence provided the perfect backdrop for these couples to converse, slam several drinks to calm the nerves, and get ready for a night out. The second piece of the pie chart would be the “woohoo girls”, they range in age from 25-35 and are typically at the show with several other woohoo’s. Mat Kearney followed up The Helio Sequence with a set of songs perfect for a television show where doctors spend more time making out with other doctors than actually helping patients. What I can say without a doubt is, the “woohoo girls” love Mat.
After those two pieces of the pie there are several small groups including teenagers, some with parents in tow, and others doing there best to hide the large black ‘X’ on their hand. There were metro boys waiting to see what Keane lead singer Tom Chaplin would be wearing, and I think even a few Brits from Sussex, Keane’s hometown. Regardless, when Keane took the stage all these groups became a throng of screaming fans and kept it up for the entire 90 minute set. Every member of the band seemed in complete awe of the atmosphere in the Ogden. The Nuggets’ win (announced between songs) just fed the fire. Keane played as polished of a set as I have ever heard. Perfectly timed and choreographed, they have graduated to the next round of rock. The sell out of the Ogden was testament to the fact.

There is a name in Skyscraper, it’s Julian Plenti. So in Julian Plenti, there is a name. Whoa, I kind of got ahead of myself. The Matablog has the first single to come from Interpol’s lead man solo material, from the Julian Plenti moniker. Album in stores August 4.
I wonder if all of these lawsuits against them is eating them up alive. Either way, pretty cool of them to give away an entire free live show. You can get yours here.

Moby is making a special appearance on NBC’s 30 Rock‘s season finale. Sounds about right.
I contributed some photos to the Denver Post Reverb concert section that you can see here and read a fabulous review by the Miss Cassie Schoon. For the record, this show had to have been one of the best of the early year. The only one that I can think of that topped this one was the Cut Copy show. There’s probably a couple of others, but this is off the top of my head.

One of the benefits of speaking two languages is flagging down the Spanish news station on the scene to get you on the television. Nothing like some shameless promotion.
