The duo have released a sneak peak to their video, Standing on the Shore. After watching this tidbit, I ask myself, “How do I not take these guys seriously?”
The lineup keeps on astonishing my very eyes. There’s a lot that still hasn’t been announced, and I’m dying of the anticipation on what else the guys have up their sleeves. Don’t forget that you can follow Monolith via their Facebook Group Page and following them on Twitter.

This new album has me all excited , especially with the all kinds of weirdness going on. The name of the upcoming release is, No More Stories Are Told Today I’m Sorry They Washed Away No More Stories the World Is Grey I’m Tired Let’s Wash Away and it is due out on Columbia on August 25th.
For you fans of the Wands of the Magical persuasion; I have been put under a spell to giveaway the following below to a random US winner to email me @ julio.enriquez@gmail.com with your mailing address. (that was pretty cheesy, I couldn’t help myself)
- a copy of their debut EP: Magic, Love & Dreams
- an autographed Magic Wands t-shirt.
I don’t think the NBA is going to get what they want this year. No Kobe vs Lebron and the Denver Decider has written a great article that discusses Stern’s problem that he’s facing this year in the NBA Finals. Go Nuggets! If you find the need to purchase any Nuggets gear, may I interest you in a Birdman t-shirt (shameless plug-in)? Tonight is a must win in LA and the Nuggets must not get STAPLED.
In case you haven’t read, the Frenchies did alright for themselves today. Oh, how I love this movie.
Maybe it was the dueling vocals from the brothers Williams and Jimi Goodwin, or perhaps it was the sheer awesomeness of the new album, Kingdom of Rust that packed a 1-2 punch for the evening. If you want to count punches 3 & 4, you can add crisp delivery and the aesthetically pleasing projection (never underestimate the power of film) screen throughout the performance. The new/old material from the UK band sounded as fresh as when they were touring Lost Souls. Despite a heavy concert night for Denver (the Decemberists & NINJA) , the show had a tremendous turnout and the band didn’t disappoint. The set started off with Jetstream, at which point I realized that I hadn’t listened to the neglected Kingdom of Rust at great length, and the proverbial hinges had been blown off in sonic fashion. Do not sleep on the new record from one of the UK’s most consistent bands and catch them if you can on tour.

One of my favorite acts from SXSW hit Daytrotter for a session. Lots of act come into that studio to record, but not all can be good. This sesh in particular really harnesses in on the brilliance of the Brooklyn band and their ability to outshine their recorded album.
Matador will be releasing the new album from Jay Reatard this August, titled, Watch Me Fail. His Twitter musings are amongst the funniest ones out there and here’s how he described the making of his new album:
“This new album has been challenging. It’s the first time I’ve written and recorded an album specifically because a label wants to release it. I’ve never made a record for a record label. I’ve always finished my recordings and then a label is decided on. When I made ’Blood Visions’ I had no idea that it was going to see the light of day. And I’ve never made a record in which the label heard the songs, or anyone heard the songs, before the album was finished, so that’s kind of intense. That’s what singles are for; I always considered my singles as a glimpse between the albums. Labels always had the previous single as an example of where I was going at the time, or of what the next album might sound like. In this situation, people at the label are hearing the songs before the album has been finished, but I try not to let it distract me, I’m trying to go about this process in a way that’s the closest to how I would have done an album in the past. A lot of bands these days, they approach the making of an album like it’s collecting songs, they don’t think about how all of the songs are going to work together. They sequence their albums on iTunes, wondering what songs sound best next to each other rather than putting them together as they were written. That’s not an album.”

I love how intricate Karen O’s dresses are as of late. Not messy, just kind of fancy.
