Peaches
Thanks to URB for the heads up on this one! I find Peaches to be a bit on the abrasive side, but this new track off of her forthcoming album, I Feel Cream (to be released Cinco de Mayo). The track was produced by Soulwax (which probably explains why I like it so much).

Rudo y Cursi Soundtrack
All my friends that have seen this movie in Mexico have said it’s one of the year’s funniest and the soundtrack is raising a lot of eyebrows because of the tremendous talent that has been assimilated on the album doing Mexican standards. Camilo Lara (aka Mexican Institute of Sound) and Carlos Cuaron are directly responsible for the vision of the sound portion of the movie, and they have outdone themselves again (they worked on the Y Tu Mama Tambien soundtrack together). Their ability to nail some of the funny scenes with the appropriate music isn’t as easy as it looks and the several stabs at Cheap Trick’s classic is done triumphantly. The soundtrack as available over at iTunes on Cinco De Mayo; it hits other digital stores On May 19th And physical retail stores On June 9th. Rudo y Cursi opens In NYC And LA on May 8th; throughout the country later in May And June.

Here are some thoughts from the movie’s Director and Soundtrack Producer,Carlos Cuaron-
“While stuck in Mexico City’s morning traffic, I was listening to a CD, which was also stuck inside my car. Cheap Trick’s “I Want You to Want Me” drumbeat started up (the Budokan version) and lead singer Robin Zander drove me to sing along with him. I did it, feeling ridiculous, and to make things worse, I even sang the lyrics in Spanish. That is how I discovered Tato “El Cursi” Verdusco’s single for the film.
If Tato can sing Cheap Trick’s song in his own way, why not invite other musicians from different genres to re-make the songs that appear throughout the film, mostly norteñas, cumbias, and rancheras? I’m pretty sure that more than one musician came out of the ”genre closet” during the preparation of all this madness.
In the early editing stages of the film, I noticed that every time the character Batuta was in his car, he needed to be listening to music. What type of music can he listen to in his red ’81 Corvette, wearing a Hawaiian shirt, a chain, a dangling earring and even sometimes a Panamian hat? The answer was immediate: Muzak or Ray Conniff. Barry Manilow would not have been the right choice. The great Bon wrote such beautiful music that could lead even the most demanding genre worshipers to nirvana.”
Sonic Youth on Jools Holland
This album may blow the hinges off of anything that has come out to date this year (except for, maybe, Animal Collective) . Their forthcoming album is titled, the Eternal, and it will be released June 9th.

Sasha and Digweed to headline Global Dance Festival
More details later, but this looks pretty cool. Unfortunately, I’m not 18, nor do I own glowsticks, but I can say that I’ve seen them both. Not at the same time, but I would like to cross off of my list of people to see while still alive. More details and acts to come.

Pet Shop Boys
This is not meant to be funny, sarcastic or snarky. The new Pet Shop Boys, Yes, is a return to true form for the quintessential 80′s duo. The album has all the elements that made them so popular, with catchy lyrics, 80′s synth arrangements, sugary beats, and flamboyant innuendos. Don’t hold that against them, they opened the doors for many groups out there and I can firmly state that this is the best album they’ve made in this century. Guilty pleasure? Perhaps.

Pretty Lights
I’m happy to see that Colorado is seeing a resurgence in musical talent. We might not be Silver Lake , Brooklyn, or Denton, but we ‘re a pretty tight niche community. The latest act to surface is a producer by the name of Derrick Vincent Smith, aka, Pretty Lights. His live shows are accompanied by drummer Cory Eberhard, and together, they make make sounds that bring together smooth beats and sounds probably how Girl Talk would sound if he actually made music. Think of a glitchier RJD2 and the result is Pretty Lights. The good news is that you can download the previous two albums in their entirety over here and Pretty Lights has a forthcoming album due next month, so make sure and look out for it because it will also be a free download.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart
I was able to catch them at SXSW this year, a short set, but enough to reinforce my love for the sappy bunch. Baeble caught The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – 2.27.2009 at Music Hall of Williamsburg, which you can see in its entirety here, and below is a short clip from the show. Their album is a bit on the short side, barely passing the thirty minute mark.
