Happy New Year’s Eve!

Picture 008

Over the year, I have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to be hoping for in 2009. My day job is working for one of the large banking giants that has laid off a tremendous amount of people. So for this, I am happy to still be employed. Be safe in whatever you decide to get into tonight and may 2009 be more fruitful than 2008.

Mike Shanahan

I can’t believe he got fired. For those that don’t live in Denver, he’s kind of a big deal ’round these parts. Read more here.

Constantines

Here’s the new video for the Constantines‘ single, Credit River. I forgot to add them as one of my favorite live shows, twice! I think the video is very apropos of the current credit crisis and turbulent times.

Albums That I Dismissed or Just Forgot About in 2008

Frightened Rabbit-The Midnight Organ Fight

Heather said this album was tops and her one of her favorite shows of all year. I kind of skipped out all together until one night where I found myself driving home from the office and listening to a couple tracks on World Cafe and thinking how this album is what Snow Patrol’s last album should have embodied. Maybe I’m missing the mark here all together, but vocals sound about the same for both respective acts with different songwriting and musical elements.

Hercules and Love Affair- S/T

No excuse here. I just forgot about this album together when I was cleaning the house the other day. The vocals from Antony on some of these tracks nail the nu-disco sound that the act achieve on every song. I think it was because they were slated to come to Monolith and pulled out that made me forget about the album.

Bon Iver-For Emma, Forever Ago

The Wisconsin native was brought to my attention by Ryan and he ranted and raved about this bearded fellow. SXSW rolled by this year and I remember catching a day show of his at Emo’s in the early stages of the afternoon. Not a good mix of booze, early outdoor afternoon delight, and singer songwriter for my state of mind caused for us mosy to the next party. I started to read everybody’s list and I decided to give the album some proper attention. I regretfully admit that I did not do this sooner and want to kick myself for doing so. A co-worker of mine brought up a really good point of how he would do all the different voices in a live show? I had to calmly explain to him that it’s just part of the biz….

F*&#!!!

Watching the monumental collapse of the Donkos on live national television was as excruciating as watching a significant other cheat on you with a best friend. It was pretty bad, and the only thing I had stuck in my head was this song below. I hope you choke San Diego. May the offseason be fruitful and the upcoming draft provide the team with new blood on the defensive side of the ball.

Phish

According to rumors and Bill Husted’s column in the paper today solidified things. Phish is rumored to be playing a five night stint at Red Rocks this summer and a Spring show at the Pepsi Center. WOW! WOW! WOW! Something that a lot of people don’t know about me is that I was a huge Phish fan back in the day. If memory serves me right, my first email address was Chalkdustjules7@aol.com. Yeah, I kind of liked them. My first show was at Las Cruces back in 99′ and here’s the setlist.

Shootings at Vinyl

This place is probably about a mile from my house and kind of scary because across the street was the location of where Darrent Williams (RIP) was ringing the new year before he was gunned down. It’s gone downhill since the brains behind the operation opened up his own joint in LoDo. E-40 was having a concert at Vinyl shortly before the shootings. Read more here.
