Listening to the newest album from Spiritualized, one would think that the material played off of the album would be a quiet affair. Last night was everything BUT quiet. Of all the nights to forget my earplugs. The level of distortion coming from the stage was ear splitting, but for some reason, I just stood there. I couldn’t move. I was paralyzed in a state of absolute euphoria. I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears. I hate backup singers, with a passion. However, last night, the backup singers were all I could think about. The set started off with Amazing Grace (I think that was it) and they killed it with their beautiful Southern Baptist type vocals and the distorted guitars. I was already rolling my eyes two notes in and I just stopped and listened. Sometimes you hear music, and other times you HEAR music. It was one of those nights. The stellar set had me wanting more and more and my only problem with last night was the opener. How many times do I have to endure Grand Ole Party as an opener?
