While the rest of the blog-world descended up on Chicago for Lolla this year, I was able to take solace in knowing that my weekend wasn’t going to shit by moping around the house wishing I was there. The DPUMS took full effect Friday night until early Sunday morning. The festival in all its glory was a DIY festival from booking bands to playing outside with no permits in broad daylight. There weren’t too many hitches , aside from a shady venue that decided to close early without telling anybody, all was well. The best part of the festival is that all proceeds go to the local bands where many say that this gig is the best paying gig of the year. The Denver Film Society decided to gangsta a bank’s wall and just had a drive-in of sorts playing the Talking Head’s classic, Stop Making Sense. I missed the “it” band according to Heather, but something tells me I’ll catch them on the flip-side. I didn’t get a chance to see any performances in the Church off of Lincoln, even though all day Saturday had a number of performers that I wanted to catch. One special highlight of the weekend had A Shoreline Dream playing a special acoustic set that hadn’t been done….nicely done guys! I’m still awaiting the new album from EAOD, and Joshua Novak won over tons of new fans in his rug shop performance, which by the way was crazy. We were sitting on rugs that cost more than several cars… Bad Weather California has something special going on and the Magic Cyclops needs to be on TV immediately. We were able to catch the winners of the DPUMS this year, Hearts of Palm, and they seemed very comfortable on the festival’s largest stage….
