Would it be premature for me to say that Wes Anderson could be our generation’s Woody Allen? Do they even make the same kind of movies? I don’t know, but I can speculate. I really thought Adrian Brody was going to stink up the picture, but he proved to be tolerable.

#2 No Country For Old Men

Javier Bardem came out of left field with this portrayal of a sociopath in the early 80’s. I read somewhere that the Cohen Bros. just gave him a bad haircut and a pair of boots for the role. Not to mention a horrible Southern accent.

Tied #1 Control & There Will Be Blood!

Both movie struck a chord. Control was shot beautifully. Anton Corbijn did the story of death and rebirth without flaw. I was hoping for the film to use the guy that played Ian Curtis from 24 hour Party People, but this other guy worked. As for the new epic from PT Anderson was jawdropping. Daniel Day Lewis will win the Academy for 2007 as Best Actor. His portrayal as an oilman at the turn of the century trying to realize the American Dream was portrayed with much ease. The movie would have been a crawl had the music of Jonny Greenwood not been present. At times, the movie felt that it had a score from a slasher pic, but it seemed to tie in well together. I’m happy I waited to make this list until today. I saw There Will Be Blood yesterday, and it was released in 2007. I’m a huge PT Anderson fan, and I knew immediately that I was going to like his latest offering. The random quiet brother from Little Miss Sunshine plays a preacher torn with sin. Again, I can’t say enoough about the movie. I eagerly await it’s release on DVD.
