Jazz Aspen /Labor Day Weekend
Labor day was one of the most eventful weekends in my life. My wife has a friend that lives in Aspen and graciously played host for us last week. She set it up so that we would volunteer at the Jazz Festival in exchange for tickets. Fair trade. I saw Joss Stone (she has a great voice, and I will leave it at that), John Legend (sometimes you take one for the team, my wife LOVES this guy). The next day was Hippie Fest ’07. Leftover Salmon, Spearhead, and the Allman Brothers. It was nice to see all the aforementioned acts. Most importantly, I came back alive. I went rafting and kayaking on the Colorado River. I’m a novice. I am a city slicker and have never claimed to be an outdoors man. However, if you live in Colorado, it’s kind of hard not to enjoy the outdoors, just a little bit. While kayaking, we hit a hidden rock that caused our kayak to flip and I nearly drowned. It was the most surreal and life changing experiece that I have ever had. It was like in the movies where one minute you’re above water, and the next minute, it’s quiet and your underwater without know where your next breath would come from. I lost my wedding ring, sunglasses, and my favorite hat. On the upside, I’m alive, so I’ve got that going for me….
