Jacob Fletcher

The week continues with UK folkie Jacob Fletcher. The pain in his voice can be heard throughout every second of his music and makes it known that he couldn’t care less. It could come across as a bit self-destructive, but his voice is poignant and crisp, leading your ears astray. The name of the album is, All the Dead Roads to the Kingdom and you can buy it here. Ben Harper /Twist and Shout In Store/ 08-30-07

After wrapping up a long tour around the world, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals locked themselves in a Paris studio for less than two weeks and the new results is Lifeline. It is his most intimate offering of Harper’s career. The best thing is that the studio he used to record the album, was pretty much as old skool as possible, using no pro-tools. The instore brought many songs to life, especially the ones that I thought were a little on the saddo side.

Eulogies

Eulogies is an old fashioned rock band that is fronted by Peter Walker. By old fashioned, there’s no tricks, no glitches, just great lyrics, amazing vocals, and most importantly, the album cover looks like there’s a giant liger, but I could be wrong. Their self titled album will be released on Sept. 11 via Dangerbird Records. The album was co-produced by Hrishikesh Hirway (The One AM Radio) and here’s the best news yet, they’ll be hitting the road w/Film School. HELL YEAH!!!!

George & Caplin

IMHO, one of the most underrated bands in town. I had the pleasure of catch George & Caplin at the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase and I was floored at the craftsmanship of the band. Their album does them zero justice on their ability to transform swan songs to delicate moments in time. The name of their latest album is He Really Got Through to Advertising and you can purchase it here.

Oakley Hall

I don’t think that Merge has released a bad album this entire year. Who knew psych country rock existed that side of the Mason Dixon Line (namely Brooklyn), and actually be good. The kids are going to be releasing their latest offering I’ll Follow You Sept. 11th to give 50 and Kanye a run for their money. You can buy the album here.

Kevin Drew Think about everything you love about Broken Social Scene’s music. It’s usually the ones that are sung by Kevin Drew. Yeah, that’s how I feel, not that the rest of the band is in the backseat, it’s just a matter of preference. The new album, Spirit If, being released Sept. 18 via Arts and Crafts , is absolutely beautiful. The rest of the band plays a supporting role, but it’s mesmerizing. There is not one bad song on the entire album, and I feel exhausted at how amazing this year has been in music.
