Screaming Masterpiece
Music documentaries are a funny thing. They are either done well, or just crash and burn. Take Marty’s Documentary on Zimm, or even better, the Band. That was done to perfection. A more recent one is from Wilco titled, “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart.” You can literally feel the strife that the band is going through while trying to make YHF. The Icelandic Documentary by Ari Alexander Ergis Magnusson is one that displays the proud and rich heritage that is known as Iceland. He gives a very accurate portrayal of what it’s like for these musicians to have this craft and “not be able to sell more than 200 albums in their native country. That is why they make the music that please.” The film doesn’t run too long, and hopefully you will come away with more knowledge about Icelandic music than just thinking that Sigur Ros and Mum are the only musical exports from Iceland. The documentary has well conducted interviews, great concert footage, and in-depth coverage of modern, and not so modern Icelandic music. As bonus Content, you can watch the interview of Kjartan Sveinsson (of Sigur Rós).You can Buy it now! and to commemorate the release of the documentary Milan is giving away a free trip for two to Iceland and you can register to win here.
