Sunset Rubdown

Side bands are rarely taken seriously. They are usually created as something to fill up the time between albums or tours. Usually. I’ve seen Wolf Parade twice, and didn’t care much for them live as much as I loved their studio album. Sunset Rubdown was one of those bands that I dismissed because it was noted as a side band and I didn’t think to take them seriously. It wasn’t till I read an article in the Westword that interviewed Hi-Dive talent guy Ben De-Soto and he said that the was looking forward to catching this show in particular. His words aren’t meant to be taken lightly , so I headed to his word and stopped by the joint. The place was crowded for a Monday night show and the group did not disappoint. I had listened to their album previously, not in its entirety, and thought it was a bit slow and drowny for my likings, however, after catching the live, I discovered that the talent behind the band lies in their guitarist Jordan Robson ( I think that’s his name) and of course Spencer Krug (the obvious). Jordan was busting out some sweet licks last night on some of the slow tunes which made for a very enjoyable evening. I will boldly say that I enjoyed my time at Sunset Rubdown more than Wolf Parade. The moral to the story is never to dismiss side bands.
