Ok, so here is the obligatory New Release post, and usually I skip them , but today is extra tasty….. The Rapture and the new TVOTR albums are released today. Both are what you would expect. There is no sophomore slump and no new ground is covered by either band, so what are you waiting for, Best Buy has them for $7.99. They need your money.
The ACL LIST – Part XXIXIXIXIXI
The Ladies of ACL #5 (tied) Aimee Mann has been making safe adult listening for quite some time. But I must admit that it’s the upper echelon of adult contemporary music and I have loved her voice since she was in Til Tuesday. I think her husband was in that band, and her husband is Sean Penn’s brother. She really won me over with the Magnolia Soundtrack. As for Miss Chan Marshall, she has had a meltdown and rebounded in resounding fashion. I have always thought that she was one of the reason that Matador WAS one of the best indies out there, but it just seems like they aren’t trying anymore. Cat Power is entering a new stage in her life where she is appreciating life and isn’t living this self loathing rock star lifestyle that proved to be destructive. Her music is very reflective of this new direction and she has a full band backing her up this time around…should be rad….Did I mention that she’s photogenic?
