South Park Music Festival Pt. III
(on with the music already, geez…)
Living in the city , you kind of take for granted the beautiful scenery that is Colorado. It’s not till the Fall/Winter season that you really begin to notice the nature with the changing of the leaves and the snow capped mountains. The drive to South Park is breathtaking. Although, on the way back, there was zero lighting and genuinely felt that my life was endangered due to the ill lighting and with the passing of every 18-wheeler, but I’m happy to say that I would do it again and next year, would even plan on staying the full weekend with a little more preparation. BTW, I guess I didn’t get the memo. The weather up in South Park was a baumy 40 degrees and dropping. I forgot that weather in the mountains is always 20-30 degrees colder , especially at night. We got an uber late start to the evening, and for this I am sad because we missed Everything Absent or Distorted (a love story) , maybe next time for sure!!!
The Dirty Novels- They sounded like they were at home in the late 60’s w/their Brit sounding dirty garage rock. The band is from Albq. and they were a good start to the evening.
Listen > Show Me
MEESE-And award for most pleasant surprise of the evening, MEESE!!! This brother band from Denver was the coolest unplanned event of the evening. We took a look at the schedule and took a chance. Our dividends paid off, because their beautiful blend of indie pop rock is so sweet that if you listen to it for too long, you may end up with a mouth full of cavities. They are playing an acoustic set at the Walnut Room tonight for you locals and they are opening up for local/national favorites the Fray at Red Rocks towards the end of the month.
The Thieves- Since we are giving awards for last nights shows, I give the award for Pedophiles of the night to the Thieves. They kept on egging these poor unassuming little teen bopper kids to flash the band. I am all for the ladies flashing their stuff at shows, but they were little girls. Maybe it’s ok in Oxford, England to do that, but in the US of A , I think that kind of stuff gets you 3-5. As for their set, I couldn’t stop thinking that “Spinal Tap” had come to life. They were in ever sense of the word just like them. It was very comical and their music wasn’t what I expected from what I heard on their one song on the webpage. Listen > You Get it Easy
Hot IQ’s- They brought the house down. I have seen them mature from beginners to this dynamic band that is only going to get better. I saw them early this year when they opened up for Hot Hot Heat, and truth be told I felt that something was missing. South Park comes along this year and they have added some mysterious element that I can’t point out quite yet , however, it seems to be working. This Denver band is on tour and are not be missed.
