Local Scene – Peña @ 15th St. Tavern

Today’s post is dedicated to Muzzle of Bees . The last couple of days he has posted on bands such as Explosions in the Sky and Drag the River (local band). Peña is a band that draws from the same pool as Explosions in the Sky, except for the fact that they are more progressive and substantially louder, where EITS are more delicate. Last night was a night to showcase some new material for Peña. I liked it. It feels as if though they are at a crossroads and I have no idea where they are going, I’m just happen to be along for the ride. Their sound is becoming more refined and I feel as if they are maturing as a band.

    Tarantella

The other band that has been around for a while in the Denver music scene is Tarantella. This city is bountiful with bands of the alt-whiskey-tango-gypsy-gothic variety and Tarantella proves to be right in the thick of it. Tarantella blends bolero, tango, and twang rolled into one. Kind of like DevotchKa but with a female lead singer. This is a local favorite and I would love to see these guys live.
