I just received an email from Startime Records, home of Tom Vek, Futureheads, Dios Malos, Brendan Benson, and French Kicks to name a few and they have a bone to pick w/Pitchfork. Startime aggresively sought out Sound Team, but proved no match to that small record label from Los Angeles, Capa something, anyways, they wrote one of the most sincere emails that I have read in a while….
STARTIME SOAPBOX! SOUNDTEAM!After seeing SoundTeam’s impressive CMJ debut two years ago and then hearing the outline of what was to become “Movie Monster,” StarTime tried ardently to sign the group to the label. Alas, Capitol got the band and helped them produce an absolutely incredible record.“Movie Monster,” SoundTeam’s debut, is one of the best albums StarTime has heard in a long time and it looks like the hardworking band will be getting some well-deserved attention. That said, an exceptionally mean-spirited and, we think, highly inaccurate review was posted on the influential Pitchfork website a few days ago. StarTime, who has been often helped by Pitchfork’s favorable coverage, doesn’t argue with its reviewers’ right to champion or trash anything. We just want to counter that we think “Movie Monster” is a masterpiece and should be bought as soon as possible.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!
LOVE,
STARTIME INTERNATIONAL
Pitchfork are the biggest dipshits when it comes to reviewing music. They always give great bands bad reviews (SOUNDteam, Mars Volta, etc)It sometimes seem as though they do it on purpose.
