Weezer-We’re all on drugs…. This album was a stinker, confirmed by my roomate Steve.
Stephen Malkmus- This one really kills me…I listened to this album over and over, trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. You break my heart Mr. Malkmus.

America wanna see Tron live, not work!Just livin’ for the ci-tay
So I have come out of my rut. I was kind of depressed and have seen the light at the end of the tunnel. It is going to be very hard for me to see anybody else at the Comedy Works in the future without saying that it was alright. I have to say that I will be crying tommorow because of the amount of laughter that was had tonight. He let every race in the US have it with double barrels. Blacks, Whites, Asians, Mexicans etc…. The best part of it was that I saw him only 3 rows back and the maximum capacity was no more than 250 people. It was absoulutely insane. I wasn’t even going to go to see him because to my understanding, people had waited for like 4 hours in line to get tickets, and then out of the blue I get a call today asking if I want to buy tickets for the 11pm show tonight. It was like telling Tyrone Biggums that there was a 5 o’clock crack giveaway.
Moving right along, I finally saw “Shopgirl”

I have to say that I was quite impressed with Steve Martin’s writing abilities with his novella turned film “Shopgirl.” It translated well and his character developments left nothing up for interpretation. It was kind of funny to see how he incorporated the lead singer from Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painter Mark Kowlcek to play such a pivotal character in the movie. Jason Schwartzman of course played the struggling artist character in the movie, far fetch, from his drum playing days with his real life former band Phantom Planet. Coincedentally enough, I always that they put out one of the better records from 2004. Funny enough, Claire Danes played a very tolerable role that lent herself to be liked in the movie and not just tolerated.

Currently Listening to –Kiss Me Deadly

I have to say that since I heard that first single off of this album I have been converted and then some. The crazy thing is that I have seen this band live and I can’t remember what they sounded like or who they were. They opened up for Bloc Party in Denver last May at the Gothic Theatre , but for the life of my I cannot remember what they sounded like. Point is that I really enjoy them a lot and can’t stop listening to them. I can’t figure out if it is the singers manic conviction or the quiet yelp, whatever the case maybe, I really like them.
The week ahead in the Denver area is very promising, seriously, ask Tonya from up the street…. to be continued She Wants Revenge, Diamond Nights, and The Joggers off of Startime… Whatelse can you want, I better enjoy before I head off to the desert land of El Pisso/Juaritos for Thanksgiving…..

MONDAY MADNESS………..
Several things of note from this weekend, shall we start, perhaps in sequential order????
I finally caught “The Squid and the Whale” and I must say that Anna Paquin and Jeff Daniels stole the show. Especially Jeff Daniels. The onscreen banter was very reminiscent of a Wes Anderson movie. Once the credits starting rolling, I finally discovered that Wes Anderson produced the movie. So there you have it. Best line and soon will be part of my repetoire is when Bernard (Jeff Daniels) informs his sons that he has rented an elegant house across the park in what he calls “the filet of the neighborhood.” For anything to be the filet of a certain kind is true comedy!!!
Friday=Night of debauchery @ Milk Bar w/ DJ Elroy and Digital Disko

Random, DJ Elroy, and myself
The two kidz from the Beatpimpz played a VS. set that was very tantalizing in every sense of the word and pulled out many surprises, including one of which Digital Disko busted out with one of my favorite singles out right now from Mylo “In My Arms” which you can stream at http://www.radioblogclub.com/search/0/mylo_
Saturday= Pena @ 15th St. Tavern

15th St. Tavern by far is the diviest of al dive bars. The White Stripes , Murder City Devils, and several other big time bands have played at this Denver landmark. Not only did it add toambianceience of the very successful CD release show by Pena, but proved to live up to the name. New material was played by Pena and I do have to say that I cannot wait till they start playing what they have been holding out from us all this time. My only qualm is that I felt the show was a bit short, that or my pitchers of beer weren’t coming fast enough.
Wow, is that Jon Bonham??

Seems that they covered “Age of Consent” by New Order … ughhh, I would have given my first born to see this. Here is a live cut of this song from New Order 08-25-84 courtesy of
Let the Hatas hate!!! Coldplay in Denver

Lastly Coldplay has announced some new tourdates, and finally Denver is included in the shuffle. Tickets go on sale Nov. 19 and the show is Feb. 19, 2006. I like Coldplay and have been given some much shit for this, but I think that they put on a great live show, and thats that!!

Saturday-
The return of local band Peña….. I have been counting the days for this show. Pena will be playing the 15th St Tavern and will not disappoint. Peña gives me hope that one day there will be a prominent local music scene. Most of the local heavies usually just make a name a leave. i.e. Apples in Stereo, Dressy Bessy, and Devotchka. Peña is a complex band that is in the heart of West Texas band Explosions in the Sky. What seperates the two is I feel where Explosions leaves Peña picks right up. A more progressive beat and tempo that builds its texture one on top of the other.

Last night was the Broken Social Scene/Feist show at the Boulder Theatre. I usually categorize shows in different areas. Ones that were cool because they were free. Others cool because you can’t believe they actually came to your town. Others that you feel are a complete waste of time and will fail to return the 2 hours that you wasted on being there. Last nights show doesn’t fall into any of the categories from above. The show last night was mad last night. I couldn’t believe how much they love Boulder. Apparently the lead singer loves the great state of Colorado and had nothing but great memories of our beloved state. That in effect equates to a great setlist and a very enthusiastic performance by the entire crew. Granted I was unable to take any visible pictures of the show, for I was sitting in the balcony, but that did not take away from the show. It was amazing because my friend and I last night came to the conclusion that they spectacle on stage is a perfect example of organized chaos. We defined it last night, but I’m drawing a blank now. What was more of a surprise was the performance by Feist. Leslie Feist is an incredible singer/songwriter that has performed on the previous BSS album and also has appeared on the Kings of Convenience album and a Peaches album. Crazy, I know. I first heard her solo material on Metropolis which is a show on www.KCRW.com and wasn’t impressed upon first listen. She possesses this amazing appetite for life which reflects in her performance and resonates in her lyrics. As a side note, and keep in mind this is the chauvenisitic pig in me, Feist is gorgeous. She was wearing all white and looked like an angel.
The highlights of the night for me were the songs that she performed with Broken Social Scene. What kind of bothers me is that I have read in other reviews of the band that they are a rag tag bunch. Lets be honest. They are probably one of 5 bands out in rock right now that matter. Match thatt rag tag. URGHHH!!! Here is the setlist from last night provided by the Broken Social Scene messageboard.
